Decision on Boynton high school necessary to move on town square plan
March 20, 2015 | Filed in: Boynton Beach.
It's up to the Boynton Beach City Commission to decide if they want to restore the entire old high school building, restore only part of it, or demolish the whole thing.
The Treasure Coast Regional Planning Council gave a presentation to the commission Tuesday night and offered those three options as part of the redevelopment plan for Town Square. The Town Square area includes the old high school, City Hall, the Schoolhouse Children's Museum and Learning Center, the library and the Civic Center.
Treasure Coast originally presented plans to the commission that didn't include demolishing the building, as per what residents requested at a workshop. But the commissioners said they'd like to see a plan without the building.
The three scenarios presented to the commission all come with a mixed-use development (residential and commercial).
If the school were to be restored, Treasure Coast recommends bringing in all the civic and recreation activities that now occur in other buildings.
There was no date set for when the commissioners would decide on the next move.
