Boynton Beach, county officials celebrate newest addition to Boynton Harbor Marina
March 19, 2015 | Filed in: Boynton Beach.
Boynton Beach and other local officials took over the Boynton Harbor Marina Wednesday night to celebrate the Community Redevelopment Agency's Harbor Master Building.
They hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 6 p.m. that included music, refreshments and a dedication cermony of the Heritage Trail to Janet Hall, who founded the Sea Mist drift fishing boat, a business her family still runs today.
The building is the latest improvement the CRA has made to the marina. In 2004 to 2005, the CRA gave $10 million for the construction of the Boynton Beach Boulevard roadway extension. In 2006 the CRA bought a large portion of the marina and renamed it the Boynton Harbor Marina, according to a news release.
The CRA bought the land and fuel dock in 2007 and planned to build the Harbor Master Building which includes a ships store and public restrooms.
In 2009, the CRA completed the marina slip reconstruction, which included new docks, piers and fish-cleaning stations. In 2011, the CRA designed the Marina Tower entry feature.
In total, the CRA has given about $19 million to the marina.
