Art merges with technology at the International Kinetic Art Exhibit and Symposium in Boynton Beach, Feb.7-8, 2015. This event is FREE and open to the public.

Kinetic art is a form of art that depends on movement for its effect. One of the best known kinetic art forms is the mobile. However, it includes many styles and infinite possibilities that will be showcased during the weekend, including 16 iconic outdoor art works and 60 indoor kinetic artworks with a site specific light installation. All are designed to connect the public to one-of-a-kind visual experiences.

The exhibit and symposium also leaves room to connect with kinetic art through educational presentations and hands-on participation in many of the displays. For example, participants are invited to "Meet Me By The Tree" and transform an old tree into a kinetic sculpture using old or discarded materials that have been re-purposed for the occasion. They can also learn about solar energy and how to conserve it by taking part in a workshop to construct dancing solar butterflies that will be attached to solar mechanisms. There's also the opportunity to become your own DJ by using the buttons, lights and sounds in a replica of the "Daft Booth," which was used at the 2014 Grammy Awards.

Also on display throughout the weekend will be the work of Plein Air Palm Beach artists whose paintings of kinetic art sited in the urban streetscapes and landscapes were selected by the Boynton Beach Arts Commission. Plein Air is a French expression that means "in the open air" and is used to describe the act of painting outdoors. Complementing these works will be original projects by students from Boynton Beach Community High School, Ft. Lauderdale's Central Charter School and the Digital Media Arts College in Boca Raton.
